Police pup Logan has retired from the force following 7 years of service.

Humberside Police said goodbye to one of their long-serving police dogs today, a handsome German Shepherd called Logan!

Logan joined the force in 2015 after passing his general-purpose police dog course in just eight weeks. According to Humberside Police, it typically takes pups around 13 weeks to complete their training course prior to becoming a service dog.

“Whilst our police dogs are highly trained and skilled animals, they also form a very special part of the police family, including police dog Logan who is now ‘having a ball’ and enjoying his retirement following a seven-and-a-half-year career”, the force proudly reported.

Working alongside handler PC Ian Sweeney, police pup Logan assisted the force on many investigations, and arrests, across the Humberside area.

PC Sweeney said it was an “absolute pleasure” and a “dream” to work alongside Logan, adding: “he’s been a star since he joined the force in 2015”

“He assisted me in making many arrests throughout his career, putting himself in danger to keep the public safe”, PC Sweeney told.

Elaborating on the dangers of the job, and the heroics that both officer and paw-officer exhibited throughout their careers together, PC Ian Sweeney said:

“One incident that will stay with me for ever was a call for service we received in 2018 following reports of a man in possession of a firearm. In a bid to detain the man, who was wanted for attempted murder, myself and Logan were both shot three times each.

“We both thankfully made a full and heathy recovery following on from the incident, but I’m just pleased we were able to detain a very dangerous man.

“It was great to see Logan nominated for and be awarded a National Bravery Award in London for his involvement in detaining the offender.”

Logan will live at home with handler PC Ian Sweeney alongside his new sidekick PD Xander.

Enjoy your retirement, Logan!
