Police confirm fatality after person hit by train between Grimsby and Lincoln

Police have now sadly confirmed a person has died after being hit by a train between Lincoln and Grimsby this morning.

East Midlands Railway suspended train services this morning, closing the line between Lincoln and Grimsby as emergency services were called to the tracks near North Kelsey.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “British Transport Police were called to the line near North Kelsey at 9.12 am this morning (June 14) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and inform their family. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Announcing the line closure at 9.15 am they said: “We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train. This has occurred between Lincoln and Grimsby and is disrupting our trains on the Leicester/Lincoln/Grimsby and Barton/Cleethorpes routes.

“At present emergency services are en route to manage the incident. We are waiting for an estimate of when they will arrive. Trains will be suspended between Lincoln & Grimsby until the line has reopened. Trains may also be suspended on the Barton and Cleethorpes route as well.”

EMR gave an update at roughly 11.30 am to say that services were running but with some minor changes or delays.

Customers were advised to use alternative services to and from Newark or Doncaster and change for connecting services to and from Barnetby, Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
