Multiple officers assaulted during altercation in Grimsby

As they attended an incident, several officers on the scene were assaulted in Grimsby, on the East Marsh estate.

The police were called to an incident on Rutland Street yesterday evening, Thursday 9 June, responding to reports of an altercation involving a fight. The attending officers tried to control the situation but were assaulted in their attempts.

There were a total of five people arrested, after reportedly police signalled the panic button, prompting a larger police response.

There were no serious reported injuries following the incident and the five remain in custody during investigations.

In their statement regarding the incident Humberside Police said:

“Officers were called to reports of an incident on Rutland Street, Grimsby, at 5:35pm yesterday, Thursday 9 June.

“Upon attending it is believed that an altercation had taken place and whilst intervening to bring the incident to a safe conclusion several officers are reported to have been assaulted.

“Thankfully, nobody sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident. Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody whilst we continue with lines of enquiry.”
