Armed Forces Day flag to be raised in Central Park next week
The North Lincolnshire Mayor will raise the Armed Forces Day flag in Central Park, in Scunthorpe, next week!
To kick-start the exciting week of Armed Forces celebrations, Cllr John Briggs, the Mayor of North Lincolnshire, will raise the Armed Forces Day flag with pride.
The flag will commemorate those that are serving or have previously served in the Armed Forces.
Before the flag is raised, an incredibly special “static parade” will be held facing the dais in Central Park at 10:25am:
The Mayor will then greet the parade before raising the flag at around 10:30am.
Cllr Briggs will be joined by staff and students from St Hugh’s School, Peter Thorpe, Chief Executive of North Lincolnshire Council, Revd. Lines, the Mayor’s Chaplain and Commodore Waterhouse, Naval Regional Commander Northern England.
Additionally, members of the North Lincolnshire Armed Forces Day Committee, veteran associations, representatives from Royal British Legion and local cadets will attend the ceremony.
The Council have suggested those who wish to attend the event should meet at the dais in Central Park at 10:20am.
Cllr John Briggs, Mayor of North Lincolnshire, said:
“I am honoured to be raising the armed forces flag in Scunthorpe to start the celebrations in North Lincolnshire”
“Our armed forces, past and present, should be recognised for their dedication and selflessness. Armed Forces Day is all about paying tribute to these men and women”, he added.
“Everyone is welcome to attend the parade and flag raising ceremony to show their support to those who put themselves forward to protect our country and remember those who did in the past”
Cllr Elaine Marper, Armed Forces Champion for North Lincolnshire Council said:
“Showing our support for our brave servicemen and women is so important. They have and continue to make a huge contribution to our country, and it is only right we honour them and thank them”
“The flag raising ceremony is the perfect opportunity to raise awareness and begin the celebrations of our armed forces community”, she added.
“North Lincolnshire Armed Forces Day is taking place on Saturday 18 June, where people can show their support. It is always a wonderful free day out for the family. This year is set to be no different, with even more for all the family to get involved in – including a children’s arena”
North Lincolnshire’s Armed Forces Day is set to be “bigger and better than ever” – the event will start at 11am until 4pm on Saturday 18 June at Brumby Hall Sports Ground, Scunthorpe.
