Retailer to move into new Freshney Place lot

A well-known footwear retailer has confirmed it will move from its current location into Freshney Place Shopping Centre.

Shoezone will take over the 4,000sqft, double-faced unit in a primen the shopping centre at the former JD Sports store after the sports retailer moved into a larger unit.

Top town area is currently seeing a multi-million pound regeneration to create a new leisure activities such as a brand new multi-screen cinema.

North East Lincolnshire Council was awarded a £17m grant, the biggest grant received in the council’s history, from the Future High Street Fund in December 2020.

Back in January, Freshney Place shopping centre went into receivership and is in the hands of its lenders.

Receivers Cushman and Wakefield were appointed while former owners Capreon remained in charge as managers.

The Government said on Tuesday in the Queen’s Speech that it would give powers to local authorities to hold compulsory rental auctions on shops that have been vacant for more than a year to make them available to prospective tenants.

Freshney Place and North East Lincolnshire Council pledged a further £10million towards the town centre plan.

Preparations will begin over the next few days as a complete refurbishment of the store will be carried out ready for the opening in the coming weeks.

Poundland’s move into the former New Look store was delayed until next month due to the installation of a new sprinkler system.

It is currently set to open some time in June.
