Ceremony set for newly elected Mayoral positions

NELC has announced the ceremony for Mayor and Deputy Mayor positions.

This year’s Mayor Making ceremony will take place on the 19th of May at Grimsby Town Hall.

The roles of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the borough are ceremonial positions undertaken by an elected Councillor.

The roles will be nominated by their peers and the position has a term of one year.

East Marsh Ward, Councillor Steve Beasant, who has carried out the role of Deputy Mayor for 2021/22, will be nominated to succeed current Mayor, Cllr David Hasthorpe.

In the recent local elections, Mr. Beasant was elected to continue his role as Councillor for the East Marsh Ward.

He received 868 votes as a Liberal Democrat and is set to serve until 2026.

He will now be taking over the position of Mayor from Cllr David Hasthorpe, who won the Wolds councillor seat with 891 votes, representing the Conservative party.

For the role of Deputy Mayor of North East Lincolnshire for the term 2022/23, Scartho Ward Councillor Ian Lindley will be nominated.

The seat for Scartho Ward was won by Conservative party candidate Ron Shepard, who took the victory receiving 1541 votes.
