Work progresses on Grimsby Aldi store extension
Work continues to progress on Grimsby’s first Aldi as the store is to be extended.
The extensions are said to be along the entire length of the existing store, and a smaller one on the other side, adding 422sqm of extra space.
The smaller one will create better facilities for staff with the larger one adding to the sales floor.
There is work being undertaken now on the length of the store, adjacent to the road leading to Humber Street.
Back in 2019, There were also plans to re-design the Thorold Street access so that it becomes for service only, re-configuring the car park, which would reduce the number of spaces from 116 to 95.
There will be five disabled spaces, four parent and child spaces, down from seven and nine respectively..
A design and access statement, submitted to North East Lincolnshire Council as part of the planning application, states: “The proposal will result in extending the length of the sales area into the existing car park – resulting in a loss of parking spaces – and will include a modernised entrance feature.
“The front extension will include staff amenity spaces for the food store and will project out from the existing elevation providing a focal point to the building.
“The existing glazed canopy will be extended to include the new entrance. Both site accesses will be retained.”
North East Lincolnshire Council’s planning commission previously approved the plan with conditions.
“The internal layout and operation of an Aldi store has been designed to be efficient and practical for use by customers; these matters are routinely reviewed and monitored and adjustments made to the model as required.
“It is also designed to be accessible by all including disabled and elderly persons.”
Aldi’s other Grimsby store is on Cambridge Road.
