Humberside Police investigating concerning rise in Scunthorpe burglaries 

Humberside Police are investigating a concerning rise in burglaries across Scunthorpe, the force said. 

In a statement released today, Humberside Police have raised concerns over the growing number of burglary cases.

Inspector Richard Mirfin said: 

“The neighbourhood teams in our area are out and about regularly, speaking and offering advice to residents to help people protect their homes by making them less appealing to those looking to commit crime” 

“I would urge anyone with information about those committing offences to get in touch. Similarly, please call us if you see something suspicious. It may not seem like much at the time, but it might be the missing piece of the jigsaw that enables us to take action”, he added. 

The force further stated that burglary is an “incredibly intrusive” crime that often leaves victims feeling scared in their own homes. 

To combat the rise in cases, Humberside Police have released a range of helpful tips to keep your home as safe as possible. 

You are urged to lock all doors and windows when you are not in the room, as almost half of all burglaries are the result of a window or a door being left open. 

Additionally, you are to remove all items of value, including car keys, from plain sight that could tempt thieves to break into your property. 

“Think about fitting a burglar alarm and security lighting, both to your home and outbuildings. It may be expensive, but they are very effective deterrents and can bring down your insurance costs”, Humberside Police added. 

Furthermore, it Is suggested that when going away on holiday, you should NOT tell people where and for how long you will be away.

Installing an interior light, set to a timer, should also be considered, especially during the evening.
