Violent man held machete to a woman’s throat in his Scunthorpe caravan

A violent man held a machete against a woman’s throat after he dragged her to his Scunthorpe caravan.

26-year-old Ian Plastow, formerly of Barnetby and currently residing in a caravan in Scunthorpe has admitted to assaulting a woman and two police officers at Grimsby Crown Court.

Prosecuting, Michele Stuart-Lofthouse stated that the woman had been out drinking in the area with Mr Plastow before he drove back to his caravan at Manifold caravan park last year.

Stuart-Lofthouse explained how the couple began to argue which resulted in Mr Plastow dragging her out of the vehicle and towards the caravan.

The prosecutor then began to detail the horrific ordeal that the woman suffered once inside his caravan.

She said the 26-year-old brandished a machete against the woman’s throat before she could escape to a nearby caravan.

Fortunately, a resident in a neighbouring caravan alerted the police after witnessing Plastow dragging the woman to his caravan.

PC Harrison and PC Wooton found the woman crying in the bathroom having obtained multiple injuries to her head and face.

However, as the two officers attempted to arrest the perpetrator, he became violent.

The prosecutor labelled him as “erratic” as he began kicking in the direction of the arresting police officers.

PC Harrison sustained an injury to his shoulder after Mr Plastow fell on top of him.

The unnamed woman had been treated at Scunthorpe General Hospital for an array of injuries, including a lump on the back of her head, marks and bruises spread across her neck and a cut below her left eye.

Miss Stuart-Lofthouse listed Plastow’s previous convictions such as burglary and theft, but most alarmingly, an attack on his ex-wife in 2017 in which she obtained a cut when he possessed a knife.

In the separate incident, the defendant again became violent towards arresting police officers with one sustaining a fractured finger as they tried to restrain him.

Judge Michael Fanning issued a two-year prison sentence for the assault on the woman with an additional two months for the assault on the police officer.

A one month sentence, that will run concurrently, was imposed for the assault on the second officer.
