Man with 14 previous convictions jailed for beating 18-year-old girlfriend

A man with 14 previous convictions has been jailed after kicking his 18-year-old girlfriend while she lay bleeding on the ground.

Locals on Freeman Street heard shouts emerging from Robbie Barker’s flat on November 6 last year, prompting multiple calls to the police.

On arrival, police found traces of blood on one of his trainers and also on the floor and doorway of the flat in Hope Street.

Baker, 28, admitted to bodily harm towards his 18-year0old girlfriend at Grimsby Crown Court.

The prosecution told the court how Baker had 14 convictions for 18 offenses, including an offence of grievous bodily harm in 2015 when he was jailed at Grimsby Crown Court for three years and four months for wounding a pensioner.

He also targeted an 81-year-old pensioner who fought Baker off with his walking stick outside his own home.

The prosecution went on to describe how Baker had kicked his girlfriend while she lay on the floor bleeding.

Baker and his girlfriend had been out drinking when a row broke out over allegations that he had kissed another woman.

His girlfriend went round to his flat where he grabbed her by the wrists and kicked her to the ground.

She went on to bite his finger in self-defense.

Several calls were made to police by neighbours who could hear the violent row.

Police found traces of blood on the floor and in the doorway as well as a tooth.

Baker denied assault and said he had pushed the door to try to get his girlfriend out when speaking to the police.

However, DNA analysis of one of his trainers showed traces of her blood.

Baker then claimed she had fallen down but the prosecution said her eyes were swollen and ear grazed and she needed hospital treatment for the missing tooth.

The judge said that as Mr Baker was ten years older than his girlfriend, he should have known better and taken some responsibility for managing the volatile relationship.

He then jailed Baker for one year and eight months.
