River cleaner confirms new fountain for Grimsby’s riverhead
Grimsby’s canoe river cleaner has confirmed that the proposed fountain for the riverhead will now be going ahead.
The fountain will not only provide a near feature for the town centre but will also help the river’s water quality.
As the fountain provides a continuous flow of water it will break the surface of the river and oxygenate it in the process.
It will help combat the River Freshney’s yearly algae bloom and keep the water flowing.
Sharing the news to Facebook Jim said: “I can now confirm that the proposed fountain in the Riverhead will be happening.
“Although I personally don’t like these sorts of features it will serve to aerate the water as its constantly breaks the surface and oxygenates it in the process.
“This will assist in combating our yearly algae bloom and keeping things moving.
“It’s all about the flow.”
Some locals shared their support for the fountain, stating they are pleased that it will help the river’s water.
One person wrote: “Any aeration of the water will be a good thing and will benefit both the water quality and consequently the wildlife. It also suggests that the place is looked after and people are bothered.”
North East Lincolnshire Council have been contacted for a comment on the plans.
