Scunthorpe MP fails to respond to recent government scandal

The MP for Scunthorpe has failed to respond to questions regarding her position on the PM’s fixed penalty notice.

MP Holly Mumby-Croft was approach by the Gi Scunthorpe team for a comment on ‘partygate’ and the subsequent fines that have since been issued.

Mumby-Croft had previously sided with Boris Johnson earlier this year before the PM had been found guilty of breaking the law.

She suggested Mr Jonhson should forget about the scandal and instead retain focus on more “important issues” in the Scunthorpe area.

The MP also indicated that the PM should back the steel industry.

Since a number of high-ranking government officials have now been found guilty, including the prime minister and Rishi Sunak, the MP for Great Grimsby, Lia Nici has also remained radio silent.

In a statement to the Local Democracy Reporters in February of this year, the Scunthorpe MP said:

“I come from a close family myself and like others, I did not see loved ones during the lockdowns”

“Many made huge personal sacrifices to keep themselves and others safe during the last two years, so I absolutely understand how people feel”, she added.

“We must now wait for the police to finish their investigation without interference. But we cannot and should not allow this to absorb all the oxygen in the room”

“There are many important issues affecting our area that we urgently need to address, and I hope you will agree that it is important that I continue to raise them in Parliament”

She continued to raise her concerns regarding the steelworks, stating her desire for the campaign to “be heard”

Updates to follow.
