MPs to vote over whether PM should be investigated

According to reports, the PM will face a vote in Commons on whether he misled parliament over ‘partygate’.

There have been claims that Mr. Johnson misled MPs and this has led to the suggestion of a possible investigation.

From Sky News- Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle granted opposition MPs a vote which will seek to have Mr. Johnson investigated by the privileges committee.

The ruling has come as the PM prepares to address MPs for the first time since last week when he received a fixed penalty notice for breaching his own government’s rules.

The debate set for Thursday will be solely based on whether the PM purposely misled MPs.

The PM is reported to be on a visit to India during the allocated arrangement.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is expected to table the debate, whilst the PM is not present.

According to reports, Labour sources say that the committee has the power to recommend sanctions.

It is suspected opposition parties will have to persuade Tory MPs to get involved in the vote.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has urged Conservatives to “do their patriotic duty”.

Police have reportedly been investigating 12 events in Downing Street and Whitehall during 2020 and 2021, with more than 50 fines being served.

Borish Johnson, Rishi Sunak, and the PM’s wife Carrie Johnson all received fines but it has not been disclosed which events they have been fined for.

Mr. Johnson is now the first Prime Minister to be sanctioned for breaking the law.

Although all three parties have apologized, calls for the resignation have only become louder.

The PM said he felt “an even greater sense of obligation to deliver”, while the chancellor said he was “focused on delivering for the British people”.
