Grimsby Town fans inspirational walk for charity

Grimsby Town fans will walk to the game tomorrow to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Jase Ives and Colin Longden, two Grimsby Town fans, both sadly lost their mothers to cancer just weeks apart from one another.

Jase described his mother as “courageous” and always “positive” despite being in tremendous pain as she battled cancer.

Sadly, she lost her fight on 21 December.

In her memory, and to help the wonderful people at Macmillan, Jase pledged to walk 29 miles to Blundell Park, the home of Jase’s club.

He will be joined by Colin Longden whose mother sadly passed away in January of this year.

Their journey will begin at the MKM Stadium, home of Hull City Football Club, and conclude at Blundell Park’s Fan Zone.

Jase set up a fundraising page to collect donations for Macmillan, in which he has been posting updates on the pairs training progress.

In one inspirational update, Jase thanked everyone for the support, whilst making the announcement that Colin would be joining him on the 29 mile journey.

He wrote:

“Just a thank you to those who are donating or sharing – very much appreciated”

“I am delighted to say I’ll now be joined on my walk by AussieMariner, a fellow Town fan who recently lost his Mum”, he added.

“He (Colin) will be travelling from Leeds to walk 29 miles at the tender age of 68…much respect”

The Mariners Trust said they are doing a “fantastic thing” for such a great cause whilst urging fans to come and show support.

Speaking on Twitter, Macmillan said:

“Thank you Jase and Colin for going the distance to support Macmillan!”

“What an incredible challenge and an amazing total raised!”, they added.

“£2,051 could help run a medium Macmillan benefits advice service centre for a week, helping people affected by cancer to find information and support”

Everybody at Gi Grimsby News wishes to congratulate Jase and Colin for their incredible achievement – good luck tomorrow gentlemen.
