A180 temporary speed limit to remain despite works finishing
Although roadworks have officially finished on the A180, the temporary 40mph speed limit will remain for some time yet.
On Friday (8 April) Highways England announced that the roadworks would end that night through overnight works.
The works were initially set to end in March but storms in February caused delays pushing the finishing date to April.
National Highways Project manager Steve Bishop said:“Progress on this important safety upgrade was slightly delayed by the storms in February and the discovery of underground cables, which meant the excavation process required a slower, more careful approach as an extra safety measure. However, after tonight, we will have completed the new barrier system.
“We would like to thank everyone for their patience while this important safety scheme has been delivered.”
The 40 mph speed limit which was intrdouced when works started last year has caused mass disruption and frustration for motorists.
Temporary speed limits will remain in place until 21 April on the westbound carriageway and 23 April on the eastbound.
Highways England said these are still required as an extra safety measure for drivers until all the work in the area has been completed, including the removal of the safety camera system.
This part of the work is planned to take place immediately after the Easter holiday.
There will be overnight closures of the westbound carriageway between Brocklesby Interchange and Pyewipe roundabout on the nights of 19 and 20 April, and then of the eastbound carriageway between the same two points on the nights of 21 and 22 April.
Once this work is completed the road will revert to its permanent speed limit.
