Scunthorpe United fans make their feelings known

Scunthorpe United fans displayed their feelings as they were thrashed by Mansfield this afternoon.

The Iron have endured a woeful campaign this year, sitting rock bottom of League Two with National League relation all-but confirmed.

The football club currently sits 13 points from safety and only 15 points left to play for this season.

Today, they were thrashed 4-0 by promotion hopefuls Mansfield Town but, the score line was not the focal point.

15 minutes left to play; an array of Scunthorpe fans stormed the pitch in protest of the club’s direction.

In addition to the pitch invasion, tennis balls had been launched onto the playing field which caused further disruptions.

In a video, audible chants stating “we want Swanny out” evidence the displeasure that supporters have for their teams internal leadership.

Last month Scunthorpe Chairman, Peter Swann had announced he would be stepping down from his position, although still retains ownership of the club.

Although emotions towards the football club seemed unanimous in Glanford Park this afternoon, social media users widely condemned the proceedings.

One Twitter user described the pitch invasion as “absolutely embarrassing”

Another added:

“These people are stupid. There were potential investors in the stands today and they had to witness this sort of behaviour”

If The Iron are to maintain their over 70-year stay in the English football league, they would need to win their remaining games and hope external results go in their favour.
