CCTV released after Grimsby Town fan sustains serious head injuries
CCTV footage has been released after a Grimsby Town fan sustained serious head injuries prior to the Chesterfield match last Saturday.
Derbyshire Police released the image after reports of a serious incident at the Donkey Derby before the match between GTFC and Chesterfield began.
According to reports, a number of fans from both clubs caused a disturbance at roughly 4 pm when the 30-year-old GTC supported sustained a serious head injury.
Police wish to speak to the man in the CCTV image in relation to the incident.
A spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary said: “Officers are appealing for help identifying the man pictured that they want to speak to in connection with disorder during the Chesterfield FC v Grimsby Town FC match.
“A serious assault occurred during the game, at around 4 pm at the Donkey Derby near to the ground. A Grimsby fan in his 30s suffered a serious head injury during the disturbance which involved a number of fans from both clubs.
“The man pictured was in the Donkey Derby prior to the incident and investigating officers want to speak to him.
“Anyone who recognises the man is asked to contact Derbyshire police using any of the below methods, including reference 22*187483. You can also anonymously contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111, or by visiting the CrimeStoppers website.”
Six other arrests were made at the match, including five Grimsby supporters who were arrested for a range of offences including public order, pyro possession, drugs, and pitch encroachment.
A Chesterfield fan was also arrested for breaching his football banning order.
