Additional CCTV footage released after Memorial Gardens assault
Further CCTV footage has been released following an assault in Memorial Gardens.
Humberside Police have released two videos as part of the forces ongoing investigation into an incident in Memorial Gardens, Scunthorpe on Sunday 27 March.
In a statement, Humberside Police said they had received a call on Monday 28 March from a woman who had been assaulted by a man in the public gardens the day before.
The incident took place around 6am on Sunday 27 March, it is understood.
According to the force, another woman intervened to aid the victim, leading to the male perpetrator fleeing the scene towards the Teale Street and Berkely Street area.
The force believe this incident could be connected to another incident reported last year.
Detective Chief Inspector Al Curtis said:
“As part of our current investigation, we have explored whether this assault, could be connected to a reported rape in October last year on Teale Street, and enquiries are ongoing in relation to this and to ascertain the exact facts”
“The CCTV images we have released today are from 27 March and the man in the images we would like to identify and speak with, as he may have valuable information that could assist with our investigations.
“Extensive enquiries have been, and continue to be, underway with forensic testing taking place, close working with partner agencies ongoing and hundreds of hours of CCTV footage from the local area being reviewed”
“We also have officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team continuing to patrol in the area to offer reassurance, I’d encourage anyone with concerns to have a chat with them”
“Anyone who believes they may have any information or that they recognise the man shown, I would ask to please call our non-emergency 101 line quoting log number 253 of 28 March. Your assistance could be a vital part of our investigation and I would urge you to please get in touch”
Humberside Police have said one man has recently been arrested in connection with the two reports, but has since been “eliminated” from enquiries and released without any further action.
Updates to follow.
