Investigation launched after Memorial Garden assault
Humberside Police have launched an investigation after a woman was assaulted in Scunthorpe Memorial Garden.
A woman reported that she had been assaulted by a man in the Memorial Garden in Scunthorpe at approximately 6 am on Sunday 27 March.
Another woman in the area intervened during the incident and the man fled the scene in the direction of Teale Street and Berkely Street.
The suspect of the assault is approximately 5ft 6ins tall, between 35 to 40-years old, and is believed to have been wearing a white jacket at the time of the assault.
He also reportedly spoke with what has been described as a European accent.
The man in the image may be able to assist the police with their investigation and anyone who believes they may have information are asked to contact the police.
Chief Inspector Alan Curtis leading the investigation said: “I want to offer my assurance that whilst incidents of this nature remain incredibly rare in our area, we are treating it as a priority and officers will be in the area over the coming days to provide reassurance to the local community.
“Thankfully the woman wasn’t seriously injured however has understandably been left shaken by the incident and is receiving support.
“The man suspected of the assault is approximately 5ft 6ins tall, between 35 to 40-years old, and spoke with what has been described as a European accent. He is believed to have been wearing a white jacket at the time of the assault.
“We are currently exploring all lines of enquiry available to establish the full circumstances and officers will be carrying out enquiries in the local area. If you see one of our officers and have any concerns, I encourage you to speak to them.
