‘Strategically placed’ benches installed in Scartho
New benches and planters are being installed in Scartho as part of an ongoing project to improve accessibility and prevent people from parking on pavements.
The first bench has now been put in place.
Speaking to Gi Grimsby News, Councillor Ron Shepherd explained that the location of the benches had been strategically chosen on advice from locals.
This follows concerns that there is very little seating between Scartho Top and Scartho village.
It is hoped that the benches and planters will provide places for rest as well as preventing people from mounting the pavements in order to park.
But the fixtures, which have been constructed using recycled railway sleepers and supplied through ward funding, have prompted mixed reviews.
Speaking via social media, one resident said: “An excellent addition to the street furniture offer in Scartho .
“Bravo to all those behind this project and trying to make a difference to our community.”
Another added: “A nice addition to help make the village more attractive.”
But others were less optimistic, with several people expressing concerns regarding the size, style and placement of the benches.
Councillor Shepherd called the project a “good use of ward funding.”
Another bench is set to be installed on Springfield Road soon.
Further benches will be provided if the scheme proves successful.
