16-year-old found guilty of assault after violent stabbing

A 16-year-old boy has been found guilty of violently assaulting a 14-year-old boy with a knife in a shocking incident.

The incident reportedly happened on 21 September 2021 on Bridlington Avenue, Hull when the two boys reportedly had an altercation that resulted in the use of a knife.

The two boys were involved in a disagreement where the accused brandished a large knife and chased the unarmed victim through the Bridlington Avenue Estate before stabbing him three times in the back.

He then stabbed the victim a further three times in the front, with one of the blows entering deep into the chest cavity and narrowly missing his heart.

The boy cannot be named for legal reasons and will be sentenced on a later date.

Speaking after the verdict, Detective Chief Inspector Craig Nicholson said: “Knife crimes of this nature are extremely rare in our area thankfully.

“The situation these two boys ended up in has changed both of their lives forever.  The victim has suffered hugely as a result of this attack, not only physically but mentally, and I commend him for the bravery he has shown during the legal process and for the time it has taken for this case to come to court.

“I want to say to anyone who carries a knife or is thinking of carrying a knife, that not only is it illegal, but it doesn’t protect you.  It makes you more vulnerable and places you in danger of serious harm.

“Humberside Police remain resolute in tackling knife crime and preventing crimes such as this happening by working with children and young people in schools and colleges.

“By making sure young people know the dangers of carrying knives we hope that this kind of incident can be prevented and young people will feel safe in their communities.”
