Experts say the facility will be safe and meet environmental regulations, but the proposal has resulted in controversy, with locals opposing the plans and staging protests.
Speaking via Facebook, one said: “Vehicles accessing the site will need to use local B roads, which could become a risk in its self.
“They probably couldn’t of chose a more remote site. I don’t think the plans have been thought through thoroughly at all.”
Another added: “Nuclear waste cannot be ‘made safe’.
“This may not affect any of us old people, but what about future generations? Why is it going on our doorstep and not down south?”
Jon Collins, Independent Chair of the Theddlethorpe GDF Working Group, said: “No decisions will be made for a long time and any decision about whether to support a development will need explicit community support.
“In the months ahead, I will ensure that local people have access to information and are able to raise their views and concerns.
“We’re here to understand what people think about the GDF project, and look forward to meeting local people and listening to their views.”
The multi-billion pound project is expected to create thousands of local jobs.
