Frustration continues amid Toll Bar works

Local residents have taken to social media to express their frustration amid the ongoing works at Toll Bar roundabout.

Works first began back in 2020, almost two years ago.

Now, the final state of the ‘improvement’ scheme began last week and has seen hedgerows replaced, new trees planted and wildflower seeds sown.

Announcing the works, Councillor Stewart Swinburn of North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “It will be good to get the works at Toll Bar completed.

“It has been a major project for the borough, and I’d like to thank everyone for their patience during the extensive, and protracted, works.”

But the project has continually attracted controversy and frustration from locals.

Speaking via social media one resident wrote: “Wouldn’t it be more prudent to urgently create the safe drop off area for the school?

“Would have thought that should be top priority as part of the deal allowing the building of houses to go ahead in the first place.”

One said: “A tiny gesture, when the road near by kills loads every year, with farm and space both side for miles, no bike track and more road bike deaths.”

“We’re not interested in what you’re wasting our money on,” added another.

“This is just yet more ‘improvements’ on top of ‘improvements’ when there is nothing wrong with it. Is a Councillor living nearby unhappy with it? When is NELC going to stop wasting taxpayers money?”
