People of Grimsby encouraged to design fish for local heritage project
People across Grimsby are being encouraged to take part in a local art project celebrating the area’s fishing heritage.
Locals are being asked to design and submit an image of a fish to MyFishGY, which will be collated into a shoal and projected onto landmarks across town.
The project officially launched last weekend.
Speaking to Gi Grimsby News, Sean Canning, Creative Lead and Artistic Director at MyFishGY, said:
“The project is the first kind for the area. As part of a huge projection mapping project we will be displaying huge shoals of fish across iconic buildings in Grimsby.
“We have been working on the project since last summer.
“I’ve looked at buildings around the town where this could work and developed the idea to see how we can engage people in this project
“This is different to anything else that has been done recently in that it will be created by the people of Grimsby, for the people of Grimsby.
“Each fish that is submitted represents someone standing up and saying ‘I’m proud to be a Grimbarian and I’m proud of where I’m from’
“We’re hoping the project will add something new and beautiful to the town, and bring some interest to the town.
“Grimsby are great they are really doing that.”
MyFishGY is part of Grimsby Creates and is funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and Arts Council England.
