Exciting creative project launches in Grimsby!
A unique creative project has officially launched in Grimsby today, celebrating the area’s rich heritage and community.
According to organisers, MyFishGY is a large-scale project that will engage the Grimsby community in a digital creative collaboration.
It aims to provide a unique opportunity to transform the town centre of Grimsby into a vibrant celebration of the town, its heritage and its people.
The project is the first of its kind for Grimsby.
As a fully-inclusive scheme, it invites everyone in the local community to create their own Grimsby fish in a medium of their choice.
Each person’s fish will be digitally scanned and spawned to swim within a live-action virtual sea, which will be projected onto buildings across town.
A spokesperson for the project said: “This spellbinding and beautiful projection of the virtual sea will be projected on to iconic public buildings across Grimsby for public viewing over several nights throughout 2022, transforming the architecture of the town.
“With the potential to be the largest digital community engagement project of its type that Grimsby and potentially the UK has ever seen, the creative collaboration removes traditional boundaries to art that can restrict the creativity and participation within towns such as Grimsby, making it accessible and inclusive for all to participate.
“It is a celebration of the heritage of Grimsby and its people, every fish created represents a proud Grimbarian and a pride in the town and its future.
“As a digital project, the virtual sea and the shoals of fish within will continue to live on and swim beyond the town centre projections, perhaps to other towns and communities, with all the potential that brings with it.”
The project is being led by Event Show Support CIC with Pod Bluman Associates and Sean Canning of Eight Freestyle, and supported by Our Big Picture.
It is funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and administered by Arts Council England and North East Lincs Council.
