By Green-light for housing development on former playing field
North East Lincolnshire Council has been given the green-light to construct new homes on the site of the former Matthew Humberston Playing Field.
Once completed the site, which is just off Davenport Drive, will house 58 residential properties, including maisonettes and 2, 3 and 4 bedroom semi-detached and detached homes.
It will also contain an extra care facility.
According to NELC, the site will include “community facilities, such as a café and a meeting room to hold various classes, such as Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates.
“The aspiration is to deliver a scheme which is exemplary in its creation.”
Up to 20% of the homes on the site will constitute ‘affordable housing’, according to the planning application.
Pedestrians will be able to access the site from Davenport Drive using a walkway via School Road.
This has resulted in a number of objections from residents on School Road, with many claiming that it will add to the existing problem of anti-social behaviour.
Another branded the walkway ‘unnecessary’ due to the proximity of the development to the main road.
But the council says “the proposed development will not harm the character and appearance of the area, neighbouring land uses, drainage, heritage, ecology, landscaping or the highway network.”
Despite objections from locals, permission was granted on Friday the 21st of January.
North East Lincolnshire Council will now seek a development partner before beginning construction.
