Council responds to Fuller Street Bridge concerns

North East Lincolnshire Council has urged residents to report problem areas directly to them following concerns over dog mess and litter on Fuller Street Bridge.

Locals took to social media to express their disgust and concern over the condition of the popular Cleethorpes thoroughfare.

They said the area is constantly plagued with dog mess and litter.

One resident said he was “horrified by the state of the bridge and disappointed by the lack of effort put into its upkeep.”

Another added: “I’ve walked there for years and I have never seen that area in such a state dog poop everywhere on the bridge.

“There’s rubbish everywhere – vodka bottles, drink cans, broken glass.

“The council need to do something about this. People pay their rates and what do we get back for it in this area? It’s disgusting”

One man said he had collected a sack full of cans and bottles away from the area on match day as part of a community litter-pick.

“There really should be cameras in the area – from the look of the mess it seems to be the same few culprits over and over,” he continued.

Now, North East Lincolnshire Council have responded to the claims.

A spokesperson said that if people report details such as the time and place that incidents occur, along with descriptions of the dog and its owner, the council can target patrols in the area.

Cllr Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities at North East Lincolnshire Council, added:

“Please report problem areas to us at www.nelincs.gov.uk/dog-mess so we can help tackle it.

“Our officers need a lot of detail to identify irresponsible dog owners.

“Sharing information with us helps to target patrols at the right time and in the right location.

“Please include information such as the time and place it is happening along with descriptions of the dog and its owner.

“Most dog owners take responsibility for their pets, unfortunately a careless few choose not to.

“Enforcement officers will fine anyone £100 for not picking up after their dog or not carrying a bag or other means to pick up their dog’s mess.”

Anyone with concerns regarding dog mess in the area is advised to report it via the council website.
