By Authorities name man who died in Stallingborough level crossing
A man who tragically died following an incident at Stallingborough level crossing last month has now been formally named.
The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Marc Andrew De Silva.
Mr De Silva was formally identified using fingerprint evidence.
An inquest into his death has now been opened.
Authorities first learned of the tragedy at around 2.20pm on December 18.
Rail services between Barnetby and Grimsby Town were halted as a result of the incident.
Transpennine Express warned travellers that it could take several hours, or potentially the remainder of the day, for services to resume.
Speaking at the time, one railway passenger said:
“The train had just recently pulled out of Barnetby station when it came to a sudden halt.
“Staff then told us there had been a major incident on the tracks, and that the train would have to return to the station.
“When we arrived, we were told that alternative travel would be arranged as the service had been cancelled for the remainder of the day.
“That’s when we found out what had happened. It was incredibly shocking and upsetting.”
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police added: “British Transport Police were called to the line in Stallingborough at 2.21pm on Saturday 18 December following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
