By North Lincolnshire Covid cases fall as 350,000 vaccines delivered
Covid cases in North Lincolnshire are starting to fall as the region is about to deliver its 350,000th vaccine since the programme began in December 2020.
However, the current case rate is still high, standing at 1,911.5 cases per 100,000 people.
In the seven days from Thursday 6 to Wednesday 12 January, 2,947 people had a confirmed, positive Covid-19 test, a decrease of -6.7 percent compared to the previous seven days.
Government data shows that, by the end of Tuesday 11 January, 131, 157 people in North Lincolnshire had been given their first vaccine and 121,848 people had been given their second.
This results in an average of almost 1,000 vaccines being delivered a day.
Ruth Twiggins, North Lincolnshire’s Public Health Consultant, told North Lincolnshire Council: “The vaccine programme in North Lincolnshire has been very impressive as the figures show.
“The majority of people have now come forward for the vaccine, but we are still working hard to get everyone through the booster programme and the offer of first and second dose is still there.
“While the new variant does not appear to be causing as much severe illness, the number of infections is at record levels in North Lincolnshire.
“To protect themselves, friends, family and our community, people need to get the vaccine.”
The walk-in vaccination centre at The Foundry in Scunthorpe Town Centre is still open and offering first, second and booster vaccinations with no bookings necessary.
It is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00am till 5:00pm.
The council continues to encourage the public to get vaccinated as the jabs have been proven to decrease the effects of all Covid variants.
Between Monday 27 December 2021 and Sunday 2 January 2022, only 57 people were admitted into hospital in North Lincolnshire.
The total amount of patients currently in Northern Lincolnshire and Goole hospitals with coronavirus now stands at 68 (as of Tuesday 4 January).
However, over the last seven days, there have been four deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test.
These results indicate that it is unvaccinated adults that are more likely to suffer harsher consequences from the virus.
Reports suggest that they are eight times more likely to be admitted into hospital compared to those who have been vaccinated.
Dr Kate Wood, the medical director for hospitals in Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole told BBC Radio Humberside: “For people across the general population who are vaccinated and have had the booster, that’s the proportion of patients who’re finding the symptoms are quite mild.
“However, patients who are unvaccinated, or who have not yet had the opportunity to have the booster, are patients that are suffering more severe symptoms.”
