By New jet wash artwork for Paint the Town Proud!
The Culture House and Creative Start have teamed up for a brand new project called Paint the Town Proud to produce some amazing new artwork.
The project aims to celebrate Grimsby’s culture and heritage over the next 18 months through exciting collaborations with local and international artists.
Yesterday (11 January) we headed down to Duke of York Gardens in Grimsby to watch the street cleaning team from North Eats Lincolnshire Council jet wash some brand new artwork onto the streets with stencils.
The artwork was commissioned by the council for their LOVE Grimsby campaign, which recently saw recycling vehicles redesigned to show incredible images of the local area such as Weelsby Woods and Cleethorpes Beach.
Speaking to Gi Media, Beck Darnell who is the Project Manager for Paint the Town Proud said that the aim of the project is to “broaden the audience for local heritage and to get people to enjoy their local heritage and culture.”
When asked why projects such as this are so important Becky said: “Behaviour breeds behaviour so the aim is that people look to be more creative.
“It’s also about educating people about heritage in the area so artwork designed for everyday passers-by will help them appreciate where they’re from.”
Speaking to Dave who is a member of the council’s street cleaning team he said that taking part in the project was a ‘nice change’ from his usual duties.
He added: “It’s a real nice change to get out and do something to improve the local area and educate people.”
Created by Hull artist Andy Pea, the stencils encourages local to ‘LOVE YOUR PARK’ alongside images of waste bins and the Paint the Town Project logo.
