By CCTV cameras to be placed outside schools to curb dangerous parking
CCTV cameras will be installed outside schools in North East Lincolnshire in a bid to stop drivers from parking dangerously.
There have also been issues with drivers parking on double yellow lines and blocking access to residents driveways.
Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for Safer and Stronger Communities, told BBC Humberside that new technology is going to be brought in: “We have the ability to use rapid deployment cameras in key areas to capture evidence of those individuals who are parking or allowing their vehicles to be left in a dangerous condition.”
The new cameras are set to be installed this month and will see repeat offenders fined for their actions.
CCTV cameras will capture vehicle details and a letter will be sent to the owner reminding them of the law. If they repeat their dangerous parking then they will receive a £90 fine.
Last summer outside Cleethorpes Academy residents blocked the roadway with wheelie bins in protest at the number of parents parking over driveways.
Many schools in North East Lincolnshire have problems at the busy drop-off and pick-up times, leaving parents to worry that a child could be killed due to illegal parking.
Headteachers have also regularly complained of abusive parents not adhering to the rules of the road and parking where they want.
In a move to tackle the issue, Humberston Academy was recently given permission to extend its cark park to 120 spaces to cope with the number of vehicles using the entrance off Humberston Avenue.
