Snow forecast for Scunthorpe

The Met Office has released its latest weather forecast, and it looks like those hoping for a white Christmas might be in luck!

The latest Met Office update provides predictions for the entire festive period, including conditions on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.

For many people snow is synonymous with Christmas, however, according to The Met Office, snow is generally more likely to fall in the UK between January and March than in December.

Last week’s forecast showed that Scunthorpe was more likely to experience frost and fog this Christmas.

But, the BBC’s current prediction is that snow will fall this weekend, including on Boxing Day.

A Met Office meteorologist added: “As we head towards the end of the week and Christmas there is an increasing chance the high pressure will move allowing for more unsettled and windier weather to affect the UK with rain, and perhaps snow, possible for some place.”

The last widespread white Christmas in the UK was in 2010, with snow on the ground at 83% of weather stations.

Technically, 2020 was the last white Christmas in the UK, with 6% of weather stations recording snow falling.

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas?
