Council fines man £400 for hiring rogue trader to fly-tip
A man was fined £400 by North Lincolnshire Council after he paid a rogue trader £40 to fly-tip by dumping his rubbish for him.
The bin bags ended up being dumped on Moor Road in Bottesford, left for council workers to sift through.
They managed to track down the man who paid for the rogue trader’s fly-tipping service.
North Lincolnshire Council promptly wrapped up the investigation after the man confessed to owning the rubbish.
He said he needed help with removing the waste that had taken over his garden.
It is cases like these that highlight the importance of asking traders for permits if they request to take your rubbish away.
An official register outlines waste carriers which have legal permits.
The man was fined as it was his responsibility to check if they had a permit or not.
The council’s £400 fine can be reduced to £300 if it is paid within 28 days of receiving it.
According to the council, they deal with ‘an average of 40 fly-tipping reports every week’ which may increase over Christmas.
They are currently urging people to report rogue traders and fly-tipping if they witness it and to gather evidence through photographs or videos.
These can be sent to the council’s online portal.
They have indicated that the Cottage Beck Road site in Scunthorpe will be open from 8:00am till 4:00pm seven days a week.
All other sites are reportedly open from 10:00am till 4:00pm, Friday to Tuesday.
Household Recycling Centres will only be closed on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 December as well as on Saturday 1 January 2022.
