Paul Hurst quashes Omar Bogle rumours ‘it’s a no-go’
Grimsby Town manager Paul Hurst has hoped to put an end to the never-ending rumour mill linking Omar Bogle with a Blundell Park return.
The former Mariner has been out of favour at Doncaster Rovers and has been openly offered to clubs all the way down to the National League by manager Richie Wellens.
The Dons boss has urged the striker to leave as he has no place in the League One team but the 29-year-old has been unwilling to join his fifth club since leaving Grimsby in 2017.
Paul Hurst has expressed a desire for another striker and would welcome him back, but has said that the situation is “a no-go”.
“If he was available, as in, in his mind he would come, then that could happen in an instant but we were told very clearly that we’re not an option for him” he told BBC Radio Humberside.
“It’s a no-go, if I picked up the phone and it was Omar or his agent I’d happily look at that, of course I would” he added.
Hurst also revealed that he was missing someone who would be “expected to appear at least in the squad” through a hamstring injury, and fans will be hoping it is not Ryan Taylor, who has struggled with that previously.
If Taylor were injured, it would leave Grimsby with just one senior striker in Lenell John-Lewis, who has been hot and cold for fans since his return last January.
A new striker is a clear aim for Hurst as it may provide the squad with a “little boost” amid a torrid spell of form – losing their previous four matches in all competitions and only netting once themselves.
However, it will be difficult to strike a deal with a busy festive period quickly approaching and EFL clubs unable to replace any players they loan out until the January transfer window.
“I spoke to a football club who had a number of players available just two weeks ago but now they have none” he said.
It is very unlikely that the club will be able to bring someone in before their next game, a home tie on Friday night to struggling Southend.
