Grimsby keen to end bad form against struggling Shots
The Mariners are looking to end a recent run of terrible form, with three defeats in a row, against an Aldershot side who have lost their last five.
Paul Hurst’s side have been struggling to adapt following the injury to talisman John McAtee and their previous three games have all ended in a 1-nil defeat.
They still sit second in the table, just one point behind leaders Boreham Wood but will need to pick themselves up quickly as they are just six points away from falling out of the play-off places.
While one team is looking to chase the top, their opponents are panicking to stay off bottom.
Aldershot are coming off the back of a 5-0 hammering at the hands of Wrexham in midweek, staining their form table in an ominous red.
They currently lie in 22nd place – second from bottom – with just seven points and two wins to their name.
Four points separate them and Southend, who occupy the last safe spot in 20th.
Aldershot also have one of the leakiest defences in the league, having conceded 29 goals from just 14 games – the second-worst record in the division.
There aren’t many more teams that Grimsby would wish to face as they look to end a bad winning and goal scoring run.
However, they will have to do it without home-grown winger Max Wright who is out for up to a month.
John McAtee is the only person joining him on the treatment table, but Sean Scannell and Joel Grant are doubts as they are still recovering from injuries.
Grant did make his debut in Saturday’s defeat to Kidderminster Harriers, coming on with 15 minutes to go, however he may not be ready to play a bigger part in a physical league.
