Police “days of action” on West Marsh set to continue to tackle crime in the area

As part of the West Marsh Safe Streets initiative, the “days of action” by Humberside Police are set to continue on the West Marsh over the coming weeks.

This week, officers have been carrying out searches on Lawson Avenue and Cromwell Avenue, as well as communicating with local residents about crime and issues in the area.

The police force have teamed up with North East Lincolnshire Council, as well as local businesses and residents, to “make Grimsby a safer place”, according to police sergeant Will Harrison.

He said: “Following continued partnership with local authority, businesses and residents we recognise the impact caused by those engaging in street-based anti-social behaviour and criminality, and such behaviour will not be tolerated.

“Days of action will continue on the West Marsh over the coming weeks in conjunction with the West Marsh Safe Streets initiative. We recognise the pride residents of West Marsh have in their community, and we very much share that.

“Although we will continue to carry out targeted action, I want to offer my reassurance that my colleagues are out there every day, offering advice and support to those that need it and challenging those that continue to behave inappropriately.

“I want to take this opportunity to encourage the local community to keep working with us. Your information helps us build up the bigger picture and take action where needed, making sure that Grimsby stays a great place to live, work and visit.”

Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “There is no place for crime and anti-social behaviour in our borough, and we are committed to working with Humberside Police and partner organisations to seek out these issues to make our residents feel safer in their communities.

“In West Marsh in particular, we’ve been working closely with members of the community as part of the Safer Streets project to identify some of the recurring issues, and come up with solutions to tackle these.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Humberside Police for their continued support in making our communities safer.”
