Household Support Grant to help most vulnerable households in North East Lincolnshire this winter

A brand new Household Support Grant is set to provide help and support to the most vulnerable households in North East Lincolnshire this winter.

As part of the new scheme, the Government has awarded North East Lincolnshire Council just over £1.5 million to help vulnerable households in the area with food and utility costs.

According to a report – set to be discussed at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday 3 November – the grant has to be used for these costs and “to cover the costs of other essentials related to keeping people warm and fed”.

NELC will use the grant to provide free school meals during school holidays from Christmas to Easter, small grants to frontline voluntary and community organisations in the area, and grants for households in North East Lincolnshire “in need of support”.

The Council will provide a maximum of £250 per vulnerable household, and funding will be available from October to 31 March 2022.

Thérèse Coffey, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, said: “Over the last year, we have helped millions of people provide for their families. Many are now back on their feet but we know that some may still need further support.

“Our targeted Household Support Fund is here to help those vulnerable households with essential costs as we push through the last stages of our recovery from the pandemic.

Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak said: “Everyone should be able to afford the essentials, and we are committed to ensuring that is the case.

“Our new Household Support Fund will provide a lifeline for those at risk of struggling to keep up with their bills over the winter, adding to the support the government is already providing to help people with the cost of living.”

The Household Support Grant will be discussed in detail at the NELC Cabinet meeting next Wednesday.
