44 new cadets join Humberside Police
On Wednesday 20 October, Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Darren Downs awarded 44 new cadets the title of Police Cadet as they made their official oaths to join Humberside Police.
Family and friends celebrated the occasion to make the cadets’ success at completing their initial training.
The Duty Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire, Lynne Hope, also attended the event to thank the cadets for their community work.
She reportedly encouraged them to take this opportunity to build their futures.
Following the event, the 44 new police cadets will go on to have a range of different duties.
They will continue to attend a two-hour lesson every week and will volunteer with the community teams for a minimum of three hours each month.
Sergeant Nick Bunker, of the Community Safety Unit, said: “The cadet scheme was re-introduced in 2017 at Humberside Police and in that time they have done some fantastic things.
“With the support of our dedicated unit leaders, our cadets have worked hard to gain new skills and abilities that not only help them with being a police cadet, but also help them to serve their local communities.
“As the scheme has grown, we are starting to see cadets return as Cadet Leaders and as members of Humberside Police staff.
“It’s brilliant to see how the cadet project has helped them to achieve their goals and we are very proud of what our cadets do to make a difference.
“They truly are a credit to themselves and the Force.”
Community Engagement Coordinator Katie Hardy, the leader of the cadets, said: “I’m delighted to welcome the new cadets and we look forward to seeing their continued development and involvement with local policing.
“Over the years the cadets have worked very hard to make a difference and it’s wonderful that the scheme is supported by so many.
“We are really looking forward to see our new recruits progress through the scheme and to learn from one another.”
If you are interested in joining the cadets, recruitment restarts in April 2022 for 15-16-year-olds.
