Jobs Expo hailed a ‘huge success’
The North Lincolnshire Jobs Expo 2021 took place in Scunthorpe’s Baths Hall on Tuesday (19 October) and was attended by more than 40 employers with hundreds of vacancies on offer.
The event, organised by North Lincolnshire Council, attracted job seekers from across the area – with a survey revealing that more than nine out of ten who attended the expo had found at least one vacancy they would apply for.
Jolene Wilson from Tayto praised the event and added: “We had a very busy stall with over 70 people very interested in applications. Lots of interest from people looking for full-time and part-time vacancies. We even saw some ex-employees that are interested in coming back to work for us.”
Cooplands have lined up interviews next week for manager and team leader roles, with a spokeswoman for the company stating: “We had the best day at the jobs expo, it’s the best one we have been to in and around Scunthorpe.”
Ongo also praised the event as the best jobs fair they had ever attended, going on to say: “We had the best day. So many customers were engaging and lots of enthusiastic people wanting to find work.
“We took so many referrals it’s going to keep us very busy for some time. Very confident we can gain some new successful staff from this event.”
A spokesperson for 2 Sisters said: “We had a lot of interest which will hopefully lead to positive recruits.”
Comments from jobseekers included: “I’m really proud of myself for coming today, I’ve not been in work for some years and today was the first time I’ve come to anything like this. I was really nervous but so pleased I came.”
And: “I’ve applied for three jobs and will wait to hear.”
Jobseekers were encouraged to attend by the Jobcentre, and the National Careers Service held workshops throughout the afternoon on CV and interview skills.
A ‘quiet hour’ was held before the open session as Scunthorpe MP Holly Mumby Croft opened the main event virtually via a big screen.
Louise Ineson, DWP Customer Service Leader for Scunthorpe, Goole and Selby, said: “Fantastic to see lots of people attend the Jobs Expo at the Baths Hall and getting to speak directly to employers. It was great to hear so many positive comments about the event.”
