Selfless sisters to donate Christmas dinners to most vulnerable in Grimsby and Cleethorpes
A local woman and her sister are gearing up to cook and deliver 30 Christmas dinners to vulnerable people in Grimsby and Cleethorpes this year.
Katie Clare Mille, 35, and her sister Jane, 51, first made the decision last year to take part in the kind and selfless act, which saw many people who spent Christmas Day alone treated to a home-cooked Christmas dinner.
She told Gi Media: “Last year in lockdown we knew there would be those in the community that wouldn’t be able to get to the shops or be on their own on Christmas Day so my sister Jane called me and said: ‘Would you like to cook 20 dinners and take them out to the community?’ I said yes straight away.”
The sisters then took to Facebook to inform local people of their plan – and were “overwhelmed” by the response.
Katie continued: “We posted on Facebook not expecting much, but the response from local businesses and individuals wanting to donate food and goodies was overwhelming.”
Now, the selfless siblings are planning to make the project even bigger than last year, delivering 30 dinners to people in a five-mile radius on 23 December.
“I think we underestimated the community spirit last year, so this year we’re a little ahead of the the game and we’re planning better to make the project bigger,” Katie said.
“We’d like to provide 30 dinners this year and we’ll be involving more of the family to assist. The response last year was great but we can do more.
“Every year, individuals spend the big day on their own and we’d like to make sure they at least have that Christmas fayre available.”
To nominate an elderly person or anyone who will spend Christmas Day alone to receive one of the 30 dinners – or to donate Christmas goodies – you can do so by emailing katiecmille@hotmail.com.
“It’s for us to give back to the community that we live in and serves us,” Katie added.
