Council renews promise to provide for children in care
North East Lincolnshire Council has pledged to protect children in care this week by renewing their focus on the promises they made to them.
After meeting with the Our Voice Listen Up group, the council reviewed their promise (which occurs every two years) to children in their care and their aspirations for them.
Our Voice Listen Up is a youth group made up of children in care.
They expect that everybody should be able to grow up in safe, happy and caring homes.
This comes after news that a young foster child was awarded a place at a private school following years of being in care.
Councillor Ian Lindley, portfolio holder for children, education and skills at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “We take our role in these children’s lives incredibly seriously.
“To children in our care, we are their parents and they deserve the same opportunities as any other child.
“I’m grateful to the young people that have worked with our staff on this parenting promise.
“In previous years, we have had a parenting pledge, but this year we have styled it as a parenting promise to underline our commitment to getting our young people access to the best opportunities.”
The Our Voice Listen Up group told NELC: “We have put relationships at the centre of this year’s design, with people representing each of the promises around this.
“We decided after long discussions that without caring consistent and positive relationships throughout our childhood and into adulthood, the other promises would not be possible.”
