Roads for new housing development at site of former Western School completed
Major roads have finished being installed at the site of the former Western School on Cambridge Road in Grimsby to mark the start of a planned housing development.
The new development, managed by North East Lincolnshire Council, will consist of 387 properties, including two and three-bedroom houses, affordable housing, retirement homes and a 90-bed care facility.
The ‘spine roads’ have now been completed, and a developer is being sought to come forward for the entire project – which was funded by Homes England and the Accelerated Construction Fund.
The works began in April this year, and are now nearing completion.
Councillor Callum Procter, portfolio holder for economic growth, housing and tourism at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “I’m really pleased to see this housing development progressing. We are facing a clear need for more housing nationally so I welcome this development.
“This development in particular demonstrates our commitment to try to develop on brownfield sites. This reflects our intention to look at North East Lincolnshire as a whole when it comes to housing developments, and to examine closely where is most appropriate to build.
“We have to get the balance right to meet the needs of our population.”
