Posters in the Park winners

North East Lincolnshire Council has revealed the winners for their Posters in the Park competition.

The competition was created as part of Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean.

The aim was to encourage the park’s visitors to either put litter in the bin or take it home.

People of all ages could apply as long as they lived in North East Lincolnshire.

Contestants drew their designs, which had to incorporate the phrase ‘Put litter in a bin or take it home’, on white A4 or A3 pieces of paper.

142 children, young people and adults entered the competition with their innovative poster designs.

The winners were announced at a presentation ceremony in People’s Park, Grimsby.

The first place winners were:

  • Edward Bridson
  • Ellie Mai Rayworth
  • Jared Walker
  • Sabrina Grosbarte
  • Fairways Care Home

The second place winners were:

  • Stephanie Teixeira
  • Julia Pawlik
  • Josephine Forrester
  • Lilly Jaye Stembridge
  • Eshal Khwaja

These winners received a £50 shopping voucher each and had their posters displayed in parks and other locations for the summer.

A further 10 winners also received certificates for their efforts.

Initially, there were only going to be four winners, but the overwhelming talent that was presented for the competition deserved to be rewarded.

Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “Thank you to everyone who took part in the competition, especially the schools who encouraged their children to submit an entry.”

He continued: “It is terrific to see so many creative entries from people who really care about their local environment and want to make a difference.

“We value our parks and are investing £800,000 in them over the next two to three years to improve the play areas to create safe and welcoming environments for everyone to enjoy.”

Cllr Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, added: “A lot of entries focused on the harm litter causes to wildlife and the damage it does to natural habitats.

“I’m grateful to everyone who took part, to receive 142 entries is incredible and I look forward to seeing the winning posters on display soon.”
