Grimsby Rugby Club set up fundraiser for ‘amazing’ dad Lee

Grimsby Rugby Club have set up a fundraiser in tribute to their friend and colleague, Lee Spall, who sadly passed away from coronavirus on August 23.

The fundraiser has been created to help Lee’s family and friends through this incredibly difficult time and to pay tribute to his life.

Lee, 47, had been a member of Grimsby Rugby Club for 35 years, moving up from junior ranks to the first team.

Four years ago Lee stopped playing for the team and became the Head Groundsman to care for the pitches.

Sadly, despite having both doses of the vaccine, Lee contracted coronavirus and pneumonia in June this year.

After a long and hard battle to get better, Lee passed away on 23 August.

Now, Grimsby Rugby Club want to help support Lee’s family and the tributes to his life have been pouring in.

The original fundraising amount of £1000 has been beaten five times over, with the current total at the time of publishing standing at an amazing £5,590.

The money raised will go towards Lee’s family, with the Club hoping it will “help Nicky, Jade and Liam give Lee the send off he deserves and more importantly the one he’d want!!”

Lee’s wife of nearly 27 years, Nicky, told The Lincolnite: “He was an amazing dad and his family meant everything to him, not just his family but also his rugby club family.”

“The support I’ve had is amazing, especially from a lifelong friend of Lee’s from the club, Jim Saunders, as without him and his wife Rach I don’t think I could be here talking now, they have been like a rock to me.”

Donations can be sent through the club’s Crowdfunding campaign which  can be found here.
