Ex Winterton pupil self funds prom for year group
Leavers, Keegan and Jodie, from Winterton CommunityAcademy took it upon themselves to raise money for their prom after the pandemic prevented it going ahead in 2020.
Keegan said: “We thought prom was a vital part of celebrating our time at school and a chance to celebrate all our achievements over the 5 years of being at school.
“Due to Covid 19 our prom was cancelled and the school had no idea of organising another. Winterton Community Academy said there goodbyes as soon as Covid hit in my eyes. So we decided to step in and fill some pretty big boots and pull a celebration like that for everyone. We also had the mind set of let’s make memories that will last forever, and have the night of our lives!”

Keegan added: “There are a few people I need to thank for helping me and Jodie pull of an event like this, firstly I would like to thank the ladies at Refs corner bar and café for sorting the food, decorations and working the bar.
“Also Winterton 2022 for their huge donation to help us fund the event for everyone to enjoy! Georgie Corney for the amazing photographs and all the other adults who gave up their evening to come and celebrate with us.
“Finally, all the people who donated through both go fund me pages – thank you to you all, with out any of you it couldn’t have happened!
“We have had many people donate towards our celebration, we had £163.50, donated towards by the community from the first go fund me page back in February 2020 and then the second go fund me page raised £30 from a parent willing to help us enjoy the night. Winterton 2022 also donated a large sum of £500 to help cover the majority of the costs. I also payed for the cupcakes for everyone of my own back, and me and my friend and family covered the cost of the DJ to make an atmosphere for the evening.”
