Dog owners concern after double attack in Central Park
On Wednesday 28th July around 10:30am, Freya and James were on their daily dog walk with 11 month old Rottweiler, Kobey.
They took the same route around the Co-Operative field at the back of Central Park as they normally would.
Freya said: “We took Kobey out on his training lead like we normally do when another dog ran over to us. The other dog wasn’t on a lead and came pounding up to Kobey and started showing his teeth.”
James added: “At first the dog seemed kind of friendly and looked like it just wanted to play, but then things turned and the owner in the distance came running over to grab his dog, which looked like a Jack Russell breed.”
Freya said: “The man had no control over his dog”.
James added: “After a few shared words, we contiuned walking Kobey.”
Freya went on to say: “After we went a little further another dog approached us – this time the owner was around 10meters behind on the phone drinking coffee in hand”.

James continued: “Now, this time things did seem more tense – the dog knew it wanted to come straight for Kobey and took hold of his neck.”
Freya added: “It was really quite frightening at this point. Me and James tried to stand inbetween Kobey and the dog to put a barrier to prevent him from getting attacked any further and try and scare the dog off.”
James: “By this point I was shouting at the owner to come and control the dog as things escalated pretty quick – eventually he came over but all the man had to say was – it’s what dogs do – and continued on his way.”
Freya: “It really was a frightening experience. We wanted to share our story as we just want people to be responsible owners, especially in a public park like Central Park. We often walk Kobey here and have never experienced anything like it. For two incidents in one day – it really caught us by surprise.”
James added: “If things were the other way around it would have been different I think. Kobey is a rottweiler and there is such a steroetype around this loving breed sadly.”
Freya said: “We know it’s only a minority of dog walkers, but we want to raise these events. I’ve only walked Kobey once here since the incident as its made me more wary.”
