Public consultation set to tackle air quality and pollution in North East Lincolnshire

Residents of North East Lincolnshire have just five days left to submit their views on the air quality in the borough, it has been announced.

The Council are in the process of carrying out a public consultation on the issue, and are hoping that the responses will help them form a new approach towards air quality and pollution in the area over the next few years.

The government published its Clean Air Strategy in January 2019, which North East Lincolnshire Council will be following to develop its own approach.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, cabinet member for environment at NELC, said: “We want North East Lincolnshire to be clean and safe place to live, work and grow up in, and having good air quality is integral to that.

“Air pollution is a major public health risk, which can lead to a number of illnesses, including heart disease, strokes and lung cancer.

“There is also a significant association with asthma and other respiratory infections in children, and we’re doing all we can to reduce these risks and protect the future of our borough.”

It’s thought 4.2 million premature deaths across the world each year are linked to air pollution.

The consultation ends on Sunday 1 August. To take part and have your view, click here.
