Local children’s charity to put adrenaline to the test at firewalk fundraising event
Local charity Sunflowers Children’s Action Group, together with Time4Change, are hosting a unique fundraiser event which will see participants walk across hot coals to raise money for local children with life-limiting conditions.
The firewalk is set to take place on Sunday 3 October at the Pelham Suite on Cambridge Road in Grimsby.
Joanne, who volunteers for the Sunflowers charity, said: “Firewalking is so empowering. It’s one of the fundraising events I have done several times over the years myself, and each time you just do it and immediately think “I want to do it again!””
“It teaches you about controlling the voice in your head, which can be quite negative at times – like telling you that you’ll be the person to trip! This has never happened in all the time this company, Time4Change, has organised firewalking events.
Joanne said the firewalk begins with participants taking part in a two-hour training seminar, which addresses everyone’s fears.
“It really gets you buzzing and there’s no mumbo jumbo or hypnosis involved,” she said.
“I’d encourage anyone to do it if they could.”
Sunflowers Children’s Action Group was established by unpaid volunteers in 2019, and creates inclusive events and activities for children who suffer from life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses.
Now, the charity are calling on any local people in North East Lincolnshire – adrenaline junkie or not – to take part in this one-of-a-kind firewalk event.
A £10 non-refundable registration fee is required, as well as a minimum of £140 to be raised in sponsorship.
There are currently 20 people who have signed up to participate, but up to 60 people in total can take part.
