Horror as cat caught in fox trap in Epworth

Local residents horror as cat caught in fox trap in Epworth

Owner of Garfield, Steph said ‘It was a really big cage trap like a large dog crate baited with a pigeon. At the bottom of someone’s yard/field. Once an animal is in it does not get out. Steph could hear Garfield but couldn’t straight away locate where the sound was coming from.’

Steph said “I Noticed he was missing about 8/9pm as I had been out all day. The pink area on the map is what I covered. I first heard him about 11pm and I could hear 2 meows every 10/15 mins. Green is where he once was locked in.

“X marks the spot I found him trapped in the cage. When I initially got there I thought he’s got trapped under the huge pile of scrap wood, I walked round to find him in a cage.”

The local community stepped in to try and help locate Garfield.

Steph added ‘luckily it was a “humane cage trap” and they only need checking legally every 24 hours. Just at first glance and in pitch black it was so haunting looking and seeing Garf trapped in the cage. Fortunately I found him safe and unharmed’.

The  RSPCA says ‘Never try to free a fox or wild animal from a snare or trap – you risk hurting yourself and the animal and it could be an offence if the animal was legally caught. Stay back to avoid stressing the animal and call us immediately with the location.

We’re opposed to the use of snares but some types are still legal. If the fox is still alive, call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.’
