New budget approved for North Lincolnshire Council

North Lincolnshire Council have approved a new budget for the year 2021/22 at its Full Council meeting on Thursday 25 February 2020.

According to a statement released by the council, it includes plans to “protect communities, enhance the environment and create jobs to help support the area recover from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Spending plans also include a new free parking scheme in Ashby, Brigg and Scunthorpe.

Cash has been allocated for the successful Imagination Library scheme giving all children under five free books.

There will also be continued support for the planting of thousands of trees and additional investment to protect homes from flooding and funding for footpaths, roads and home security for the vulnerable people.

General council tax was increased by 1.48% and the adult social care precept increased by 2% – a total of 3.48%.

Councillor Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“Over the last year, Covid has put our systems through a real test, giving us a clearer picture of what works well and what does not.

“Our fantastic team in North Lincolnshire has shown great innovation and imagination and delivered our services in the most challenging circumstances imaginable.

“With the determination, enterprise and resilience of the economy here in North Lincolnshire we will get through this and build back better.

“Now we have a very serious plan for investment across the coming five years that will create jobs. These proposals will create a more attractive environment for businesses to invest.

“The end result of all of this will be that the right conditions will have been developed for highly-skilled, well-paid, sustainable jobs to flourish in Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire.”
